Hagar - Hetch Hetchy

Dam Hetch Hetchy! As well dam for water-tanks the people's cathedrals and churches, for no holier temple has ever been consecrated by the heart of man. ~John Muir

What do you do when there is no more water to drink?

You dam up the valley.

The granite walls and waterfalls,

just as magnificent as her sister

Yosemite, become the sacrifice for descendants as numerous as the stars

that we can sometimes see at night.

Hagar raises her voice in the wilderness,

Where most who can help her cannot hear.

You can destroy in a short span

of time what took thousands of years

to create. Glaciers sculpting inch by inch

the form of

A woman crying her last tears,

she speaks with no

remarkable faith

but because she was born to be seen

and heard.

cathedral arches gracing

a rain-streaked mountain.

God preserves her but it is not she

he hears. It is the boy,

beloved and blubbering

behind a bush,

It is yourself and not your mother,

earth, that is saved.

If you would only cry out

an ambassador for the future.

you will remember

the beauty you are fighting

for.

No holier temple has ever

been consecrated by the heart of man:

the heart of a woman.
